Secondary Chemistry TuitionBishan, Singapore
As one of the science-related subjects that students can take at the O Level education route, O Level Chemistry can be considered a critical hurdle that students have to overcome, in order to advance to the A Level path. Given the rigorous demands of the subject, some students have found the learning process rather frictional. For example, students may not understand the chemical processes taught at schools and thus are unable to answer the structured and free response questions. As such, students should consider looking for additional academic assistance via the secondary chemistry tuition programme, which is offered by our featured tuition centres at Tampines.
For the study of O Level Chemistry, students will learn about experimental and practical chemistry, so that they can develop and informed interest in Chemistry-related issues, recognise the strengths and limitations of various scientific methods and appreciate the applicability of these methods to daily life contexts.
How our Secondary Chemistry tuition classes will help students to succeed at the examination.
Our Secondary Science tuition classes help students improve their scientific proficiency through interactive classes, specially-compiled notes, as well as topical practice allowing students to achieve a well-rounded understanding of the subject.
Our specially-compiled study notes help students understand scientific concepts optimally. These notes are carefully crafted by tutors to ensure that they are concise, effective and easily comprehensible.
Sound methodology suitable for various learning needs
Our classes are taught by prolific tutors and they feature interactive lessons, with emphasis being placed on empirical analysis, to better engage young and active students.
We provide a good variety of practice questions that are specifically centered around the examination format and topics to help students adapt to the demands of the O-level examinations.
O Level Chemistry (5073) Syllabus
The O Level Chemistry topics comprise of six sections – Experimental Chemistry, Atomic Structure and Stoichiometry, Chemistry of Reactions, Periodicity, Atmosphere and Organic Chemistry. For O Level Chemistry, students are required to attempt three papers: Paper 1, 2 and 3.
Paper 1 – Multiple Choice
In Paper 1, students are required to complete 40 multiple choice questions (MCQs) within 1 hour. Periodic Table of Elements will be provided. Paper 1 carry 40 marks and 30% of the overall grade.
Paper 2 – Structured and Free Response
In Paper 2, there are two sections – Section A and B – which are to be completed within 1 hour and 45 minutes. In Section A, there are structured questions that carry 50 marks in total. In Section B, there are three questions that carry 30 marks in total. The first two questions are compulsory. One of the two will be data-based question, requiring students to interpret, evaluate and solve problems based on the information presented. The last question carries 10 marks and will be presented in an either/or form. Periodic Table of Elements will be provided. Paper 2 carry 80 marks and 50% of the overall grade.
Paper 3 – School-based Science Practical Assessment (SPA)
In Paper 3, students have to conduct a science experiment in school and apply three skills sets – Performing and Observing, Analysing and Planning. Paper 3 carry 96 marks and 20% of the overall grade.
Objectives of Secondary Chemistry Tuition
Our Secondary Chemistry tuition classes focus on developing key areas, namely, knowledge of various chemical processes and formulae, familiarisation with exam questions, and the development of a keen interest in the subject. All of which are important elements needed for distinction in the subject.
Build up Content knowledge
Tutors will help students build up their content knowledge in the subject through teaching of chemical reactions, interactions, processes, and formulae, as well as helping them apply such concepts through observation and analysis.
Develop exam strategies
Tutor are always focused on ensuring each and every student is sufficiently prepared for the examinations. Under the tuition programme, students will learn to adapt to the topical, intellectual and applicational demands of the exams though rote practice.
Instill lifelong learning
Students will be able to develop the foundations for lifelong learning through the tutor’s efforts in arousing students’ interest in the subject and building foundational knowledge.
