O Level Biology (5158) Syllabus
The O Level Biology topics comprise of four sections – Principles of Biology, Maintenance and Regulation of Life Processes, Continuity of Life and Man and His Environment. For O Level Biology, students are required to attempt three papers: Paper 1, 2 and 3.
Paper 1 – Multiple Choice
In Paper 1, students are required to complete 40 multiple choice questions (MCQs) within 1 hour. Paper 1 carry 40 marks and 30% of the overall grade.
Paper 2 – Structured and Free Response Questions
In Paper 2, there are two sections – Section A and B – which are to be completed within 1 hour and 45 minutes. In Section A, there are structured questions that carry 50 marks in total. In Section B, there are three questions that carry 30 marks in total. One of the first two questions will be data-based and students have to interpret, evaluate and solve the problems presented. The last question will be presented in an either/or form. Paper 2 carry 80 marks and 50% of the overall grade.
Paper 3 – School-based Science Practical Assessment (SPA)
In Paper 3, students have to conduct a science experiment in school and apply three skills sets – Performing and Observing, Analysing and Planning. Paper 3 carry 96 marks and 20% of the overall grade.
